I have two 9° 7° garage doors that I need openers installed on. I checked with Lowes and Home Depot. They want $100 a door for the installation. I'm a carpenter by trade and I don't think installing a door opener could be that hard, but then again; I could be wrong. :^) Anyone care to comment? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Break it down to your time spent vs thiers.

I would assume about three hours of your time to install each one if you have to wire power out to them. Otherwise it should be more like 2 hours a piece.
4 hours for both at $15 per hour is only $60 to do it yourself.
If they do each one in two hours you are paying them 50 bucks an hour. Sounds like a rip off to me.
I would do it my self. They are not that difficult.

i used to work for a garage door company so i have installed 100s of openers , it would take me an hr to an hr and a half depending on some things
1. is it pre wired for wall button and safetey eyes
2. was there a previous opener installed , if so did they leave the angle iron on the ceiling , if not then you would have to buy new angle iron and find a stud in the ceiling to mount the angle iron to and then attach the opener to it

the most important thing, make sure your door works properly manually , rollers are in good shape , springs are set properly , door is balanced , if not you will do damage to your door

I needed a garage opener installed. My neighbor works for a garage door company. After I talked to him i decided to pay him to install mine. He told me that a garage door is the largest moving thing in your home. yes, you can do it but it's not just the opener that makes the door work properly. If the door and opener are not in proper working order it will be unsafe and will do damage to the door and ware out the parts in the opener. I would pay a technician to do it. He charged me $75 and I taught alot. call him i'm sure he can help you. His name is Eric 323-633-9531 Good Luck

$100 is not a bad price because if they screw somthing up they are liable for it.... also how many trips to the ACE/home depot are you going to make if you forget somthing.....???? Have him do one door then while he's there offer him $60 cash for him if he does the other..... He Just might do it for miney under the table.

Its pretty easy to do, but it helps greatly if you have someone to give you a hand when it comes to attaching it to the ceiling. I did one myself a few years ago (for the first time), and that was the hardest part.
