Mars is a tad cold this season but I understand. Utopian ideas have been with us for a long time. The medieval monks were nothing new: the Essenes had withdrawn from the world thousands of years before them.
It is hard to live in this world. In _The Razor's Edge_ there is a quote (inexactly quoted here): "The way to enlightenment on the mountain top is easy, but down here in the valley, the way is as narrow as a razor's edge."
I have found some peace in co-housing communities. You still have to deal with people and people issues. You have to work through things. The one I lived in was governed by consensus. Now that was a challenge. Everyone had to agree or the action was not done. You voted yes or stated what had to change for you to vote yes. Pretty advanced thinking.
All politics is local. Work to make your spot different. Change starts with the irritation you feel right now. Baby-steps. Find a small cause (small as far as you think of it) and work toward change. You will be surprised that it will take your time and effort. Become a champion for something. Your choice. It is hard but things worth doing are.
What THEY (whomever the THEY are) want you to do is to watch TV and vaguely complain. You are waking up. Do not go back to sleep. Regards from one who is working, too.

Does anyone else think this way? Of course they do. In Germany they have a word for it - weltschmerz. All those evils that you have listed prove that you are an intelligent and sensitive individual. You feel strongly about those evils but I suggest that you are only responsible for your own conduct. We have to live in this world but our own individual actions make a difference. Perhaps you could learn about the more positive things that are going on. It may not seem so to you but the world is improving gradually. Check out life in the Victorian Era to prove my point.

you are there, say i know this nice little place out in Montana, it takes about 4-5 days travel(on horseback), where you can go and be one with nature, no cars, no phone,no religion(bring you own-get shot)down to earth patriots only need go there,no consumerism(nothing to buy-leave money and credit card home), simple test for stupidity performed when you first arrive, no hating allowed, no bigotry accepted, no corporates allowed, the environment there is pretty much pristine, and fascism is just a word-no meaning, only 1 pre-requisite you gotta take a test, e-mail instructions available

The problem is is that you're only looking at the negative things. There are also positive things going on too. Its always been that way. and the 100 cool people wouldn't be cool forever. and maybe the people telling you to read your bible are on to something becasue i think you will just be disapointed by anything less than perfect.

Agreed! However I don't want to live on another planet, I think that those idiots should ! The only problem is what if you and I don't agree who is cool? anyhow, I sometimes feel like the only one who believes that the US creates it's own problems, like Iraq. Right now, we are an occupying force who is sometimes randomly murdering the civilians (think of Haditha!) whom we originally were supposed to be 'liberating'. We are now breeding a whole new generation of terrorist to commit whatever atrocities that they can to pay us back for the violence we are inflicting on them.

It gets difficult sometimes. People who aren't open to ideas and blindly follow behind the ones who tell them what they want to hear. People who think I should agree with everything our government says because I was born here. People who have pre-conceived notions about me because of my race and gender. My former (thank goodness) FEMALE boss who thought Rush Limbaugh was a god (can you believe this?) and that Dubya and Darth Cheney were good moral examples to follow (HUH??) and discussed this loudly in front of my desk every day. The people who assume I love Condi Rice because we share a race and gender. It's a hard world to live in, but without us, think of how much worse it would be! Without us causing a stir, fighting against evil ideas, Christians wouldn't have to worry about going to hell, it would already be here. So don't go anywhere yet. The world needs outside-the-box free-thinkers.

Right there with you, shug. Nothing but f*ckwits as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately, there's nowhere else to go, and both my temper containment system and my bullsh*t tollerance level seem to be failing lately, allowing my innate snarkyness and underlying bitterness to run amok.
PS. I love your PS.

i have felt like this in the past
my experience with it is that if you keep feeding this monster inside yourself that views the world and its people as a reallly bad place, you are going to end up a miserable person like i was
instead, tune out the bad things in life, focus and concentrate on the people and things that mean something to you and ignore the rest
