ticks are about the most well-designed bug out there.
they have these little pinchers that screw into your skin, so they have a really good grip. their saliva has an anesthetic in it so you don't even feel them biting into you or sucking your blood.
their saliva also contains a chemical that mixes with your blood to prevent clotting. medical research is being done to examine this chemical and possible use it in modern medicine to help people.
so, basically, they have patience to hang on a tree branch waiting for you to walk by, then they drop on you, crawl to a good spot, dig in without you knowing, eat their all-they-can-eat buffet without you knowing and then drop off and grow, wait and shrink down again so they can move and crawl to a new waiting spot.
another interesting thing is that they have unusually tough exo-skeletons which means the only way i know of killing them is by setting them on fire with a match in the kitchen sink. you can't squish them with your shoe like an ant.
do a search for "ticks" and you will find more info than you want to know about them.....yuck!

Houseflies will 'Drop' a leg if they step in certain insecticides, preventing it from entering the body. They evolved this recently.
How about 'Click beetles' that click to flip themselves over and to confuse predators?
Also, Bombardier Beetles are way cool, They spray attackers with a chemical weapon they secrete.

i love the amazon tree frog .... it is highly poisonous and its colours indicate this yellow and black with a red belly and because of its colours all the animals there all know instinctively not to touch it.... isn't that amazing... and amazon tribes men use this poison for their arrows which stays poisonous for up to 10 years making it the most lethal poison known from any creature in the world
