He was becoming a liability to Al-Qaeda. He was too heavy handed and his attacks on Muslim citizens became a burden. I would not be surprised if Bin Laden called the CIA himself to tell them the location of Al-Zarquawi.

Al-Zarquawi's death is a wonderful thing for our troops, the Iraqis, and the Coalition. He is responsible for killing more innocent people...(beheadings-car bombs-etc.) than anyone in this world for the past 4-5 years...and his actions have caused American and Coalition deaths.
The troops and the Iraqis are happy today for Al-Zarquawi's death! It's been the happiest day for them since the capture of Saddam. His death is a definite morale booster for many! And not only this death but 17 additional raids took place at the same time!
Of course the war is not over, and retaliation will surely happen... but these terrible things won't be happening under the leadership of Al-Zarquawi... and the insurgency has definitely been weakened. Usama Bin Laden's "Prince" is dead.
What a great day for so many that have worked so hard to take down this man!
Congratulations, for a job well done!!
God bless America and God bless our Troops!

It will be a brief hiccup for Al-qaida in Iraq but that's all. I'm sure someone has already taken over for Zarqawi.
It will be good for the troops until the next bombing that kills an American.
The last thing American can do now is become complacent. Killing one man in Iraq isn't going to bring down the entire al-qaida operation in that country. If anything it will make it worse because of the retaliation that is sure to come.
Bush's War on Terror cannot be won. I equate it with The War on Drugs or the War on Poverty.

I really don't think it will matter much. He already has enough hate filled radical islamist terrorists in place to carry out the carnage for a long time. If Bush would stop playing politics and let the Generals go in Iraq and fight the war the right way, it could be completely over in a month, but Bush, like so many other presidents, has stopped listening to his generals and listens to his advisors. THAT is what the problem really is.

Al-Zarqawis death is a major blow to terrorists operations. He was a very violent and dedicated man. But he was turned in by al-Qaeda themselves. He didn't care who he killed so long as he got headlines. He was blowing up Muslims and al-Qaeda didn't like that. They want to blow up Americans and Europeans.
So it is a major blow to the Al-Zarqawi terror cell but not to al-Qaeda.
Little noticed is the fact that Sheik Abdul Rahman was killed in the same hit. He was a major political leader following in Sadams footsteps. He opposed the coalition and the new Iraqi government. His death allows the Iraqi coalition some breathing room to form a true Iraqi government. That is a major step for world peace.

I agree. However I don't think there is going to be a brief power struggle or re-organization. I think there was already a clear chain of command in place. Zarquawi knew his days were limited and certainly he had already appointed the one to replace him. If he didn't, then his given tittle "Mastermind" was a little overstated.

Well, it sure is a big hit against the insurgency right here in the Left Media and the Democrats in Congress, who dance naked every time an American is killed.
