new in the institution, had an office of my own where I came from but now in a pool; have tried to be friendly; people went behind my back to complain that I was noisy both on phone and talking to them. They seem to enjoy my company but now this; i feel so betrayed, what do i do?

Talk quieter. Seems pretty simple. They probably DO enjoy your company but find you to be a "loud talker". This is very likely a problem in your office situation. Don't take it as a personal affront; take it as an opportunity to better yourself professionally.

often times in an office situation, one feels they cannot be heard unless they speak up and yet when you speak at a normal softer tone, they have to listen...be yourself and if it's not a case of surroundings, get a simple test done to see if your hearing range may be off abit. There is no shame in checking to be on the safe side and in the meantime, talk in a normal conversational tone...best of luck and be true to you... :-)
