Hi I am a postal worker lets start with the pay the pay is good depending on where you live in the country the pay is the same no matter where you live so if you live in oklahoma the pay is great but if you live in boston not so good also depends on the job carriers make ok money but electronic techs make great money so on the postal service was on an freeze for jobs for a long while If you are a veteran you can request a test date at a larger post office in your area and they will give you a test date also you can possibly get hired as a casual but after 90 days no more job the place to start is a large post office and ask to speak with the postmaster he or she will get you started oh some other things you should know don't wait your time if you have a bad driving record , or if you will fail the drug test or if you left previous jobs on a bad note you app will get caned . Good luck

Postal service does have great benefits and good pay, however the work does entail alot whether you're outside on the route or inside sorting mail.
I had a friend that work in the postal office in the NYC area. She told me that the position are full and the application for new position are so back up that the waiting time is 2-3 years. They also only look for part time which is on-call basis for fill in.
However it is a good civil job and it pays well, hopefully your area has a better waiting list than us here.

It isn't easy to get a job there. You have to take (and pass) a couple of tests and the tests are only offered at certain times. Go to the website, they'll direct you to the right places.
