registry is not something that you could learn. You've got to relearn registry every time you want to mess with a registry of a new program. You should be able to have enough analyzing skill to guess what a registry value might refer to, and what could be the possible value that the program might expect.

Look at the Windows Registry as the BIOS of the motherboard. This is where all of the specific information on programs/files etc. is kept. This basically tells you OS how to run....there is much more to it but then it gets all complicated.
