“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”- Joseph Goebbels
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders . . . All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism."
- Hermann Goering

Those types of conservatives that you mention, just like religious zealots, are so scathing towards Americans because they don't truly care about this country. I don't truly believe that the average conservative cares all that much about the American people, as a whole. It's more about a selfish drive to have their own particular view be the grand law of the land, regardless of whether or not these views, in the grand scheme, are the best thing for the American people as a whole. As an example, I watched the news last night, and read about some poor little 2-year old boy who was beaten to death, probably because he was just (gasp!) crying or something. The very next news report involved this bs about constitutional amendments and gay marriage bans. I was livid - babies are being killed, some Americans are homeless and hungry, and last time I checked, there's still no cure for any major cancer. And yet, the conservatives are wasting time on issues that will only stop being debated when there is finally no life left on earth. Again, they just don't care about Americans, they're only interested in inflicting their narrow will on Americans, and that's why they can be so hostile towards the average American.

Gee, that's like the pot calling the kettle black! You better take a second look at the leftist rhetoric. If there is any true patriotism being spouted it's by the right. Religious grandstanding? Hardly. It's a good versus evil question when it comes to backing a governmental policy to fight radical extreme Islamic terrorists who want to do away with all Christians and Jews. Good Christians don't want war, but will fight to preserve their rights to free religion. Child abuse is being used by the right wing as a moral issue in showing what's wrong with the ACLU, reactionary judges giving lighter sentences, and people who believe in religious sects like the polygamous FLDS of Warren Jeffs followers

If you're against the war then you are unAmerican. You must of missed that memo. Is the same tactic that I faced in school if I didn't smoke, cut class, or drink then that meant I was scared.
I've actually been told if I say _______ about the war, administration, and troops then that makes me a Communist and I'm supposed to only say _______. I've always felt freedom of speech was the greatest freedom Americans had. Now I realize I'm not an American but a Communist for practicing free speech. I long for the days when people argued if oral sex was sex.
Don't use vulgar words such as liberal, you will get reported for being obscene.

There is plenty of shrill, close-minded folks on the left side of the spectrum as well who only know how to name call in their efforts to get their way. People that are far left or right are pretty much out of the mainstream and need to resort to wild stunts to get recognition. They rarely get respect for their ideas.
A quick aside, I don't know if this applies to you, but I live in the Pacific NW where a lot of Liberals reside. I have noticed a trend over the last few years where more and more label themselves as independent even though when you talk to them it is clear they are very liberal. Why is this. Is Liberalism something to be ashamed of?

Cons think that a patriot is someone who agrees with the far right-wing president even if the decision was immoral. To them, unpatriotic is questioning th president and if necessary, dissenting actions taken by the president, as defined by Ben Franklin, Lincoln and many others.

We're only expressing our disappointment with those persons who, through their words and deeds, have chosen that the bessing from God of being an American is something they don't appreciate, and something they would like to take away from everyone else and hand it over to the terrorists.
If Liberals had their way and President Bush were destroyed, Zarquawi would be president right now. Instead, we should all get on our knees and thank God for our President!

My take on this is that the vast majority of the people on the far right are also very religious and I have noticed that extremely religious people have a great capacity of hatred for people that do not share the same views as them. So the very religious carry this capacity of hatred with them into the area of politics.

The same reason Liberals believe they are always right and conservatives are ALWAYS wrong. both of them are NOT open minded enough to see there is a middle ground. And neither side will compromise. They are both just terrorists who don't use bombs to cause chaos and anarchy.
God ( yes I used the G word) save me from radicals of all kinds.

The nomenclatures of "Conservative with Liberal" are interchangeable in your question.
But here their thoughts, as I know many.
The Democratic Party has, for the past ten years or so, abandoned any sort of platform. Instead they rely solely on name calling and "Bush Bashing". Conservatives are now stooping to their level and returning with the same. Hatred begets Hatred.
