I'd like to hear from people who have had kids, and what they were doing when they went into labor. I'm due soon and my baby still hasent dropped yet, and I'd feel better about going into laber knowing she was in position. So I need some tips on what I can do besides walking, that might help my sittuation. I enjoy reading old wives tales and tips from other parents because you never know if It will work for you. I would like to thank anyone in advance for answering to this quiestion, it means a lot to me and my husband.

Congratulations!
My husband and I have have wonderful 3 year old boy and when we were pregnant with him, these are things we did.
The doctors all said he was going to come Jan 5, but I just knew the baby would make it here for Christmas. Aahh a Christmas baby...so my husband and I got busy! Usually in the evening hours I was super tired and would feel a bit sore on my lower belly being 9 months and all. So my husband took me to one of Dallas' bigest indoor malls. We walked the entire mall and just about every major store, stopping once for a meal...but when I would stop walking I'd feel pressure or sore on my lower belly. The only relief was to continue walking.
We got home that night and as tired as I was we made love. The next day we called it our "sex-a-thon" I was in no mood for it, but my husband was VERY pleased to do this deed! Heehee.
I'd say we must have done it at least 5 times thoughout the day. That evening we went for a LONG walk in our neighborhood and again, finished the walk with a little quicky. That night I stretched and showered and braided my hair, as if I knew to prepare my hair for a day of birth?and at about 12 midnight I began contractions! I woke my husband up around 6am with my cramps and they were coming every 3 minutes and lasted a good 45 to 50 seconds. It was clock work. We started toward the hospital around 8am and when we got there I was already 4 cm dialated.
We got started on our HUGE Mall walk and Sex-A-Thon December 21-22. Our son was born at 4pm. December 23, 2002.
We thought if we got started early, he'd come December 25.
We so happily brought our new born son home on Christmas Day. What a wonderful gift!
So my suggestion is make some sweeet loving. Even if you are not up to it, it's alright...it's for a really good cause. I'm sure your Hubby won't mind. I read that sperm has a protien in it which causes a degridation of the mucus plug between your vagina and the growing uterus. Once your plug comes out, there is an open port between the world and baby. Sperm will actually help prepare for a birth. It's full of hormons you need to help accelerate baby's comming, naturally. Daddy's juices are good for you.
Good Luck to you both!

I've heard, drinking castor oil, drinking raspberry tea, walking up and down the stairs sideways, walking period, having sex, and MANY MANY other remedies. All I can say is I won't be trying any of these...My sister and a few friends tried them ALL plus some. All the castor oil does is make your bowels contract...NOT the kind of contractions you want. Although they will feel like labor and show up on a monitor. The sex, yeah if you're past due and have ALOT of it. The tea, will make you feel kind of dizzy...or a little "high" but NOPE!! Also, if you aren't DUE and you do something to make yourself go into labor...chances are that's all that's going to happen...you'll be in labor until the baby is ready to come, or all your fluid is gone then the baby could get stuck or doctors may want to do a c-section after so long. TRUST ME, I've been around this situation TOO many times to tell you it's ok to do any of this. BUT hey, who knows? It might work for you?!

I was very active throughout my pregancy (my daughter is now 8 days old) and I don't know if that triggered something. I woke up at 5:30 in the morning with contractions, and I was a week early! I think the day before, I was re-arranging my room and getting things ready for the baby. My advice would be to continue to be active, but those kids have a mind of their own, and they will come when they choose! I'm not sure if there is anything you can do! Good Luck and Congrats, don't worry the baby will get ready!

first question i have for you is what is your due date? how soon are you due? I know that once i passed my due date with my first child, i did a lot of walking, but the one thing that i think helped me the most, and was by far the nastiest, was drinking catrol oil in orange juice. This helped me to have bowel movements and pushing, and at about 4 am after being up and down all nite, i started having contractions, I had my son at 1 pm that afternoon. Now, i'm saying this is what worked for me and I was past my due date by 14 days, so you have to consider how close you are to your due date, otherwise the baby will drop when it is ready to drop and trust me you will know when he/she does drop because all of a sudden you are able to breath again.

PS yes sex does help alot too.

Hope this helps. Mila

well there r a lot of wives tales and i get a kick out of them too. what i did was place warm to hot washcloths on my lower back right above my behind and after about six washcloths, i began to get labor pains 6 minutes apart and my daughter was born the next morning. But i also went to the park w/husband the evening before and walked quite a bit. never hurts to try, i was also desperate and i was willing to try anything at that point.

I did the castor oil thing myself, it didn't work. Had a ton of sex, that didn't work. What did work was spring cleaning. Woke up, washed and cleaned the car, scrubbed my bathroom top to bottom, went cobweb hunting, rearrianged the living room with my husbands help, drank a ton of water and did as much house cleaning that one prego woman possible could. I woke up the next day and knew it was the day. I just drank alot of water and played with my daughter all day because I knew I would be in labor soon, and sure enough I had my baby that night.

I've heard of two things I will share with you. I don't know of the latter's truth but the first someone in my family did with succes. Have your husband take you on a car ride down a really bumpy road, preferably in an old truck without shocks. And/or Eat spaghetti.

get a deep back and foot massage. I didn't go into labor that way but I started contacting so we had to stop because i was to early to start labor. there are also target points that a massage therapist knows about that can induce labor.

- eat fresh pineapples
- drink sage, 3 drops of sage in ur bubble bath, or rub sage oil on ur tummy

- eat 7 dates
- primrose oil (from the pharmacy as tablets)
- raspberry tealeafs
- walking and swimming

these things help making things go faster but nothing will really push ur baby out unless he/she is ready to meet the world :]

good luck, congrats, and enjoy ur experience
