I received 6 $500 American Express Traveler's checks via FedEx.. I cashed 2 at the bank and paid for other goods and services with the remaining ones. A month and a half later the bank told me that the Checks were counterfeit and that I owed them $1,000. I know I have to pay but should I be worried about legal action being taken against me? None of the other merchants have notified me yet. Should I go to them first? Please, serious answers only.

You should definately let the other merchants know what happened. Also, contact the police to let them know that you were a victime also. Good luck.

How did you come to receive the travelers checks from Fed Ex?
Did you buy them, did someone send them to you or what? I have never heard of getting travelers checks via fed ex. Anyway,
if you knew that they were bogus, you could certainly be in a great deal of trouble, if you did not know, and believed that they were legit, you may need a lawyer, but you should be ok.

Just curious...was this one of those online scams where you receive their payments, keep 10% and send the rest to them and then find out a couple months later that the payments you received are all forgeries?

You should be okay if you show them that you are able and willing to make restitution. Make sure that you document all communications, and payments.
