typically there are several hundred thousand self defensive uses of guns every year and perhaps 1/3 of them end up fatal. add in other weapons and bare hands and the number might be even higher. this is a hard number to come up with since self defense cases don't show up in most crime reporting surveys

Self defense? not enough, if there were more maybe we wouldn't need to.
