Why haven'tthe auto makers been able to equal the MPG [34] of the Buick Cenyury ,1989, 4 Dr, V-6, aoto Transmission ?

It's a conspiracy to keep us buying more gas and lining the pockets of the oil companies.Look at the 1984 Honda CRX for example.It was getting 48mpg in the city and 54mpg on the highway. The next year the mpg's dropped substantially.This was no accident. Think how much money the oil companies would have lost if that kind of fuel efficiency was available over the last 22 years.

Demand has been for heavier, more powerful cars. Therefore the mileage you state is still possible for many cars in the GM line, but they are not Buicks.
