Money and political support.
Promoting a homophobic agenda provided many of his party access to and support from the theocratic right. By speaking out, he is trying to mobilize the same type of voters who, motivated by fears of the destruction of the world if gays marry, handed his party millions of dollars and millions of votes. Of course, many of these same voters are now disillusioned with him...
Witness John McCain cozying up to the Christian right in the person of Jerry Falwell, whom he once labelled an "agent of intolerance." Has Falwell or his radical, theocratic agenda changed? Not at all... but McCain has said that he no longer sees Fallwell that way. What could be the reason? I think it's the fact that, as Falwell has said, no one could be selected in the Republican party without the support of his homophobic, theocratic, hypocrtical cronies.
There is some good news, though. According to a March 2006 poll by the Pew Research Center, 51 percent of Americans oppose same-sex marriage, down from 63 percent in February 2004. Bear in mind, though, that the only thing that matters here is how the Constitution is interpreted by judges -- that is where laws really come to mean anything.

He doesn't hate gay people, hes just too stupid to think for himself and form an opinion about us. The Federal Marriage Amendment was a simple political move to strengthen the Republican base this election year. It worked in 2004, and it might work now.

One the bible was written by other men who transformed the bible in their own words, not GOD. And one who dwells on others and the way they live has no time to make important things right in the world. If they want to love the same sex let them, do not bother a lifestyle of people who provide for themselves. Hate no but he shows enough anger towards them otherwise he would not dwell on the top so hard.

Do not believe in anything (simply)
because you have heard it.
Do not believe in traditions because they
have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything because it is
spoken and rumoured by many.
Do not believe in anything (simply) because
it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority
of your teachers and elders
But after observation and analysis,
when you find that anything agrees with reason
and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all
then accept it and live up to it.

Because Bush is an idiot. He and the rest of the bible thumpers out there believe that if two men or two women were married, it would ruin the sanctity of marriage. How? I have friends that are gay, and they aren't out to turn everyone else gay. Let them be married. It's none of my business, and it's not going to do anything to my marriage.

Bush has never openly said he hates gay people. However he does agree with laws that would restrict gay marriages and tax breaks for homosexual partners. I disagree fully with him on this. Everyone has the right to live their life how they choose and with whom they choose.

The same reason all these so called christians hang out in gay sites. God loves us all and he is the judge not any of you sinners. Judging is a sin. 1 sin is equal to another. So go on with your own lives and stop worrying about other people lives.

I think he doesn't care about them one way or another. But he knows that about twenty percent of GOP supporters will vote for anybody who pushes anti-gay legislation and that's enough to decide an election. The doomed anti-gay-marriage amendment is just another opportunity to use the bible-thumpers again. You'd think they'd learn.

he doesn't hate gay folks, he in fact has gay friends (Not sure why they remain his friends) but he uses gay folks to leverage votes of the masses, to scare small town america into voting, not for republicans, but against gays.
He himself does not care one bit if someone is gay or not.
He cares about getting republicans in office, whatever the cost. He brought up gay marriage right before 2004's election, and now in 2006. He does not care at all. Rock the anti gay vote is all.

Because Bush is pushing the Christian agenda and in particular, the far right agenda. and that has to do with ANTI-homosexuals. As far as Bush being a good Christian... I would definitely say absolutely not. He goes to church, yes.... Clinton went to church, yes.. his ***** wife went to church, yes.. but good Christians... absolutely NOT.. hypocrites all the way
