An eye for an eye. If someone commits a crime, I want to know what the crime is. If it's theft of a car, worth $30,000.00 the criminal must pay the owner of the car the full value of the car and then be fined and additional amount for putting the car owner and the courts through the hassle of dealing with his/her crime.
If we cause criminals to literally pay for their actions, perhaps that would be a deterrent. Going to jail isn't enough - as is evidenced by our jail system, letting people out because they are too crowded.

If they are arrested they will have to face the truth some day. If not arrested they might get away with in the eyes of the law. But I believe in the old adage "what goes around, comes around". In the bible it says you reap what you sow. I have witnessed it and experienced it my self too often not to believe it.

no...they are or can be in denial. That is the problem isn't it. They have no idea that what they did was wrong, or if they do, they don't care...so what does it matter?
How would cleaning a rest room justify a murder, or rape? If your sister, mother, brother, father, was killed by a convict, would you be satisified that the punishemt they receive would be to clean a toilet?

I am sure most people who go to prison for a serious crime come out and do clean restrooms. Not many jobs for ex convicts.
