life.
The whole song is an analogy for the experience of living life. It's been ten years now since I've dedicated my life to Hokeypokeyism, and I can bear witness. I was leading a lost existence, keeping my left foot and right foot in place, not even shaking them. But then I did the Hokey Pokey and I turned myself around.

Hokey pokey was first used around 1880s to refer to cheap ice cream sold by street vendors.
Hokey pokey in an alteration of hocus-pocus, which comes from the Latin verse "hoc est corpus meum", "this is my body". The line was used in catholic sermons during the middle ages to bless the bread prior to the Holy Communion. The ordinary people of cause had no idea what it meant, but they understood that something important and apparently magical (the bread was turned into flesh, they thought) was going on. Since they didn't understand Latin the line turned into "hocus-pocus" in they ears. And ever since people have used the words "hocus-pocus" as a spell (it was good enough for the priests and the bread turned into flesh, so it must work, right?).
It's Magic. That's what it's all about ;)
