I've been learning about Japan and the present-day people in Japan for a while and I've heard several things about Japanese teens, like that they have a LOT of homework, like to read comics, watch tv, and play video games, but I was wondering what their social life is like. Like, What do they do talk about when they're together, or are they shy?

Note: Thanks to all those people who're from Japan who take the time to answer questions about....well...Japan. I'm sure you like it but thanks anyway. :-)

their social life is school,
Monday - Friday school is from 7:30 to 6pm
after school many go to cram school
most get home from school around 8-9pm
Saturday school club 8am to 2 - 6pm
Sunday school club sometimes
at home they study, play games, read comic, go shopping with parents,
Sundays they might do something with their family

they are shy with strangers, they are sometimes shy with me even though i have been their teacher for a while, they talk about normal stuff.

Social life for teens in Japan depends on what group they are in. There are the goths, the goth-lolis, the cosplay kids, the rasta-type kids, the kogyaru, the nampa boys... and sooo many others. Fitting into these groups is crucial. At school you get picked on if you don't fit in. Some kids commit suicide because of the severity of the constant abuse at school. Right now there is an epidemic of agoraphobic teens who don't even want to leave their house because of all the social pressures. There is a lot more but I want to keep this short. Hope this helps you.

well i know that a lot of them r involved in extra-curicullar activities, called 'circles' or 'clubs'. that takes up most of their weekends n holidays already.

with their school/circle friends they usually go out shopping just like most teenagers do.. if not then they go do some karaoke, bowling, watch a movie, or play at game centers etc.

with the shyness thing, i guess like everywhere else in the world, it depends on the individual really. some r very outgoing, some might be shy, u cant generalize the whole japanese teen population!

I was just reading about this section of Tokyo where teens dress up as thier favorite anime characters and just chill out in the streets, sort of like how those geek conventions are here in the States, but thier $h!t is, like, every day.

There are other sections of Tokyo where crazed fashion is the $h!t, and localized school gangs are pretty popular for young men.

Then there are all the normal kids who do all the random $h!t that every other kid does.

They talk about many things, they are curious and challenging. They like fashion though some of them are still conservative, they talk about their schools and their friends, they like sports, music, fashion, cars, books. Some of them are shy or quiet type, some are fun to be with. One thing I really like with Japanese teens are very discipline and not wild. I am not really saying all, but most that I have met and worked with.
