Hate to be the dissenter here, but they wouldn't have to come close at all... Just pick up any of those transmissions waves we've been generating for decades... and yes while we might be deemed "interesting"- even we dimmers, masquerading as an enlightened species, know "interesting" means "fun to watch, but exercise caution, and watch from a distance (ya never know when one of them's gonna go off their meds)"
We have decades to go I'm afraid before we'll learn how to exert our minds more than our muscle.
Till then, let's keep re-running Star Trek... at least it shows we have the vague intent to be part of the universal community in a semi-peaceful representation. Maybe? Hey if nothing else it might provide a laugh. Aliens do laugh don't they? If not I'm thinking we're screwed! ; )

They would just pass on by, realizing the Planet is still in a Chaotic Growth stage and too Dangerous to approach at this time. They would know the inhabitants, being in a low state of intelligence, would Attack anything Strange to them in Fear.

likely no longer until eventually they imagine we can manage it, for sure it ought to clutter us up at the starting up-yet as quickly because it became universal that they were non violent and straightforward issues ought to quiet down back. each and everyone everywhere should be compelled to reassess each and every thing (in basic terms from the understanding of the extraterrestrial beings existence) no longer even conflict can make as tremendous a ability on humanity as that adventure..and perchance no longer something else in this international ought to certainly, completely replace someone's concept procedure more suitable. convinced people will be afraid-we in basic terms want to save them from doing something extensively undesirable out of worry.

ok think about it you can see that from orbit that much of the land on earth is green and can determine that life exsists here. but intelligent life? hmm well there are many many species of sentient and near sentient life here we know of. but we determined that by the level of how well we communicated with that species. how advanced is their communication? is it so so advanced they couldnt communicate with us? would they then determine that we are as intelligent as we think dogs are? who knows?

i think enough people are ready to meet aliens from another planet-we as a race are far from perfect and a lot of people would try to use the oppertunity to see what they could get out of it-but many would just welcome the chance just to meet them and learn from them-apparently the dont think we are ready yet-hope to be alive if it ever happens-keep the peace old hippie
