I didn't go on a 'Gap Year' as such, but after university I went working and travelling for a year in Canada. It was absolutely fantastic, living in Vancouver for 9 months and then 2 months travelling eastwards on the Greyhound - stopping off in Banff, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, New York and then back to Toronto to fly home to the UK. The best year of my life by a country mile. I've heard New Zealand is just as amazing and I'd love to go there too. Just think about what you are looking for from your experience and take it from there. Good luck!!

Everybody is different so you need to really establish what exactly it is you want to get out of your gap year apart from a break between school and uni or the world of work.
Some people go on Safari, or learn a language and then work temporarily in the country of the language they have learnt. Many others spend a year doing charity work. I am sure that if you do a websearch for "what to do during a year off" or speak to friends of your own, or of the family, they will be able ot help you. Otherwise, talk to your careers adviser.
In order for a gap year to be really beneficial and look good on a CV it needs to demonstrate that it has been of personal (and professional) value to you.

GHANA!!!! If you go with a company called travellers worldwide they place you with a local family and you really get a taste for the culture. I went last year but had to leave early and i miss it so much. It's not too hot, despite what people might say,it's cheap (when u get there) and you can from 2 weeks - to a year so you good go to several places! Travellers worldwide also go to Europe and many other countries just type them into google and if you do go to Ghana ask to be put with Lizzie and Prince Perbi and say hello from me!

The Best place to go on for a gap is India. Because, by being to India, you are not to just one country, but a group of countries or states. Each state is having their own language, culture and landscape, which are entirely differnet. Also it is having worhip places of three prominent religion- Christian, Muslim & HIndu. Its the place of Sree Buddha & Gandhi. It includes the 'Heaven of Earth'- Kashmir, 'God's own country"- Kerala & Famous beach-Goa. By all means, a place to visit & to keep in memory for ever.

I'd say go to the spiritual Bangkok, Thailand! It's the city of angles.
They have real a culture, thai cusine, cheap goods, endless buddhist temples, friendly tourists, and the most warming people I have ever meet. I cied in silence when I left.
Travel with Thai airlines and you'll be LOL. Pure luxury for a economy seat....

I think India is a good option coz I think the culture will be entirely diff and it can be interesting if you are in the right places and it also is a good place to go considering its proximity to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.
If you are picky about the food then it is surely not the place for you. If you can see beauty in anything then you will see a lot stuff in India

Don't come to London, us Londoners aren't really the most friendly of people, although it is worth a visit, put don't stay for long.
We charge £4.50 for a cup of tea and you don't even get a smile for it!
Go some where with a bit of sun, Europe's always worth a visit. Go to Spain or Italy or if you can afford it, go down under, that's an experience you won't forget!

my place is!
it all depends on you and your character.... can be India, Scotland, the West Indies... just depends on you, and what you are after...
Give destiny a chance, take some money, get a plane and see where you will get... if you had it overthere continu the journey.
Did the first time a trip like that after University and ended up in Belize after having visited three continents and 18 countries.
just go out there and see what happens
