Reliable IQ tests are designed so that 100 is the average score, in reality it works out that 101 is the overall average in developed nations.
Your friend therefore has an IQ slightly above the average and would put him/her as being more intelligent than 53% of the population. Your IQ ranks you in the second highest category (next to genius level) and puts you as being more intelligent than 96% of the population.
A good IQ test will take age into account and should be reasonably accurate for people aged over 14 years and 8 months. Below this age the brain is still developing and there may be significant changes in learning ability. Above 14Y 8M the brain has more or less developed and IQ's shouldn't change all that much.
A high or low IQ isn't the be all and end all of everything. A person I know has an IQ of 178 (on a different test it would have been in excess of 200 but 178 was the maximum on this particular test). Despite having a phenomenal IQ he has absolutley no concept of everyday tasks such as how to boil a potato, has appauling communication skills and is blessed with almost no common sense at all. Similarly, there are people who excel in these areas but have low IQ scores.
Your IQ is probably about as good as it gets. People can be 'too intelligent' and often they come across as aloof, demanding, overbearing, unapproachable, distant, conceited etc etc.
An IQ of 102 (or 144 or anything for that matter) is only one measure of a person's worth and I guess it's wise not to judge a person based on a single criteria.

(Forget the I.Q. thing....I think it is more a stigma than anything....)My I.Q. is 175 and hon, there is NO difference.....who is the more kind? And this: Are these tests accurate? Regional? What are the stats and bell curves of your area? What were the pressures that make you have such angst? You sound like a Great Person! I have just as many trials, as I tend to live I my head and shut myself off from society. I am a Writer...... I long for friends that I can laugh with who are honest, sincere and true. I rest my case for now. I read at the age of 11 over 2200 words per min...and by 12 it was closer to 2400 words per min....making me a bit of a freak....I was an outcast...so tell me, who really has it better. I did read at one time 8 books per day, not so much anymore though I love research....but nothing precludes me fro birth, maturation, sickness and decline. I am a humanist...and believe that no matter what, always look for what You can do for another. Thank you so much....all my best to you....you sound as though you would make a wonderful friend.....*I agree w/ the professor....its friendship not a constant game of who knows what.......*

My IQ is about the same as yours (147). I would say 102 is probably an average IQ. I don't judge people on their intelligence but on their goodness of heart and sense of humor.

they are a little above average. Not much, but a little.
Now a person with an IQ of 144, that's something to brag about. You will go far in life.

It's an average IQ. Don't let it hold you back from anything you want to do. You can accomplish much. Definitely go on to college and keep plugging away. Attitude is more important than any number!

It means your smarter than your friend.Should have nothing to do with your friendship.I dont judge people by their intelligence. And neither should you.Have you heard of "Rainman".Hes a very fascinating character.Considered mentally retarded from birth and told he wouldnt live a full life.Hes called a savant.Savants are fascinating people.Hes an encyclopedia of knowledge and absolutely astounds me with his precision and acuracy.Im not sure exactly, but I believe his IQ was under 100.

i dont know per se. all i can say is those are numbers, and depending on the person, you can have the highest IQ in the world and still be a dummy to me...........but if you think that that is a good thing, because i dont know about IQ scores, then encourage your friend.
