Usually satisfaction and contentment are confused. Contentment is being happy with what you have but always with the drive to achieve (not want) more. On the other hand satisfaction is a full stop, generally born out of a feeling that all that is to be achieved is achieves. That creates a feeling of purposelessness in life. One should be content with what he has but never satisfied with what he is

satisfaction = feeling complete or happy with the way things have turned out - pride in a job well done

The OED says that it means pleased or happy.
