Or is this going to lead to more aggresive tackles by other teams with the intent of taking him out of the World Cup permanently?

Rooney knew what he was doing.

I agree that the situation has been overhyped. But having Rooney fit play is great news for England. He is a special player so the prospect of him playing is a morale boost, and what he can do on the pitch is nothing the scoff at. Like the others I fear that he could become a target but he and anyone associated with the England team know the risks. I know he needs to get match fit but it might be better to use him sparingly during the group stages. They should be able to get into the 2nd round without him. But I have also heard that the bone he broke is not a major problem so maybe they should get him out there so that he is ready for the knockout matches.

I think the media has put so much pressure on Rooney to play that he will now be used as a scapegoat regardless of what England does in the cup!

If he does play I think people will target him.
If Rooney plays and England win then all good to THEM, not just Rooney, he is NOT the only team member.
If England lose and Rooney didn't play, they will use that fact as an excuse.

The whole Rooney and his foot business has been played out of all proportion and I think will cost England the game!!
Morale must be very low due to all the attention just one person has recieved. There ARE others playing for England, how about giving them some support and encouragement!!

I am glad Rooney has fully recovered to play for England. I'd have been disappointed if he had missed the world cup. My only fear is that some opponents may take advantage to do him in during the tournament. I'll plead with FIFA to give the marching order to any player who trade hard tackles during the tournament.
Everyone wants to enjoy beautiful soccer display during the world cup.

What is Mickey Rooney doing playing in the World Cup? The man can hardly walk at his age. Mickey Rooney has been married seven times, he is more of a groper than a tackler. Besides, he always comes up short.

Wayne Rooney is one-of-a-kind football whiz. I like his football, attitude, comments so much... in Man United, for England. It would not be wise to leave him out altogether for the most important tournament in football. Wayne just loves to play football, it shows... and bloody good at it as well.

Fully-fit Ronaldinho asked WC referees to protect him from rough tackles etc which i thought was a bit arrogant. If anyone needs protection its Wayne.

The lad is ready, willing and raring ta go. With the team in a frame of mind to win at all costs, holding Wayne back would be terribly wrong.
~~GO ENGLAND~~

NO! SAF should be concerned.....how on earth can you come back from that so fast and be 100% without risking further injury. MU fan prespective.....I don't want to see him hurt come August or during the season.
