I'm still living with her...

You can hate someone so much only if you love them. Only they can reach in the depts of your soul and tear it apart. (omg that was profound!)

I have mentally put myself in to this exact situation at times, and ponder,... "would I care if this person that wronged me, or someone I loved,... could I feel anything, if they were to be put to death?" I always find myself, feeling empathy, and remorse. I think the reason I end up feeling something, has to do with the way I was raised and taught religiously, about what God would expect out of me. Its not our place to set judgement in on anyone, and I have also been taught "to forgive my fellow man." I want to be mad enough to not care, but I find myself letting go of the "hate" and concentrating on the "person". There is good in everyone,... maybe we will never see it, but you can rest assure that somewhere in this person's life they brought love and happiness, and well being to someone.

In theory it is OK. Love is always qualified by a wish of return. No one can truly love an enemy from without. There are enemies within you. It is them that you should begin to dislike and banish. Show no compassion to them, for, they never die. These enemies are the only immortals you face.and we love them - alas!

Just because someone hurts you it does not make them your enemy. The fact that they were able to hurt you [emotionally] just goes to prove that you care for them.
There are many people that have hurt me that way, but I am not able to harden my heart against them, even if I would have tried. I might feel a fool for not being able to but one can never go against the inclinations of their heart.

So yes, I would feel compassion for them.

absolutely, and without a doubt. in death all things are forgiven. especially if they die in your arms. there is no wrong that can be done to me that would allow me the right to abandon every shred of decency i posses. death is the most honest and vulnerable moment in any person's life. that must be treated with dignity and respect above all things. the quality of the person dying is (especially at that moment) not for us to judge. that will be judged soon enough. we must do all that we can to give any common person the respect and comfort that we would wish for in our time of passing. if i were alone and without my family, i would wish for a stranger to hold me close and not let me drift away alone into the unknowable. no matter who the stranger is, i would do it for them, bloody or not, without a moment's hesitation.

No. My ex gave me years of aggressive bullying. I'd only feel compassion for my son who'd lost his dad.

I would feel compassion.

Being hurt by someone on a grand or small scale means you have feelings for them.

As much as they hurt us and we are angry at them, we still care about them.
