Usāmah bin Muhammad bin 'Awad bin Lādin (Arabic: أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن; born March 10, 1957 [1]), most commonly known as Osama bin Laden or Usama bin Laden (أسامة بن لادن) is an Islamic fundamentalist, a primary founder of the al-Qaeda Islamic organization and a member of the immensely wealthy bin Laden family.

He is one of several sons of an extremely weathy Saudi Arabian family. Most of their money comes from oil and construction and the family have long-standing business ties with the Bush family.
During the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan Osama (or Usama) was hired by the CIA to front a Muslim resistance movement for Afghanistan, to harrass the Russians and fight a guerrilla war on Islamic principles. The CIA provided training, weapons and most of the equipment, as well as half of the finance. The other half came from the Saudi Royal Family and other local Sheikhs.
After the Russian withdrawal from Afghanistan the group found itself at a loose end. It is not clear what happened next. Official US version is that the once friendly and controlled group "went wild" and became the "Al-Qaeda" terror network. Independent researchers have their doubts and there is a distinct possibility that the group is still run by the CIA, as a deep-cover black operations unit whose actions can be used to justify otherwise impossible actions and reactions by the US administration.
