It could be several things such as a septic infection, rhuematoid arthritis, another type of bacterial infection or some other illnesses. Hot to the touch is usually an indication of the build up of white blood cells to kill some type of invader to the body. Go to your doctor, or an orthopedic specialist. They will tap the fluid for a culture, and tell you what it is. They may also put you on antibiotics. Don't wait too long, because you then may need antibiotics by IV and you don't want to have to stay in the hospital.

Anytime skin is hot to the touch it indicates some type of infection (bug)your body is fighting. I would not mess around with this..and in all honesty, it needs to be checked out by your dr, asap.
