Bakery fat is indeed a modified fat similar to Lard. The body needs fat in order to exist and survive, but moderation in everything is good for you. Eating too much fat makes you fat.

It's an adapted fat that is ready to use in dough & other baking.

Generally fat isn't good for health and bakery fat is no different!

You mean 'why are baked goods fattening"?
Everything in moderation is ok for you. Most baked goods are high in fat and sugar, so they are not good for your overall health
