I have never been on a plane, much less outside of the U.S. I must take several different kinds of medications. I would like to know what steps I should take to ensure that my meds will not be confiscated from me. 2 of the meds are narcotic. I also have to take insulin injections. I'm afraid that my syringes will be taken, because they could be potentially used as weapons. Thank everyone for their response in advance..Keith..

Before you head to the airport, have in your possession an offical letterhead note from your prescribing doctors that clearly list all your carry-on medicine and equipment. The letter must make it clear that these are medically necessary for you. Also have them or their offices ready to receive calls from the TSA if they decide to verify further. Good luck.

Make sure that you have documentation from your doctor stating that these medications are essential to your health and for your own personal use only.

Contact the Philippine Embassy to check that the medications will be allowed in.

Carry your medications in your hand-luggage and make sure that the airline staff know that you have them.

Provided you get information in advance, carry full documentation with you, make sure that everyone knows who needs to know (don't forget to tell your neighbour if you need to inject during the flight). The airline may forewarn customs at Manila (or whichever airport you are landing at). Ask them if they will do this.
