Actually, any car with an internal combustion engine will run on hydrogen (as proven on Mythbusters) the Only problem is storing the hydrogen. (think Hindenburg) That's why the hydrogen fuel cell is so intriguing. It produces the needed hydrogen on demand, and there's no danger of explosion.

the major automakers have known how to make hydrogen powered cars since the 1960's. there were articles about them in popular mechanics and popular science magazines back then, if you can find them now. try alternative energy web sites.
