Visit Edinburgh during August when the fringe festival is on and go to The Edinburgh Tattoo. There is something going on allover Edinburgh at this time. Visit Stirling and visit the castle and Wallace monument. See the Falkirk Wheel an ingenious piece of engineering to help boats through a loch. Go over to the Isle of Skye a very picturesque place.Go to a distillery and see how the whiskey is made and perhaps have a wee dram. Try and get to The Bridge Of Allen highland games or any other place that is staging it. Go to Gretna Green to see where all the runaway young lovers used to flee when they were underage. There are numerous places and Isles to visit enjoy.

get the train to England... sorry i coudnt resist that..
If you want scenery go to the cairngorms, Kingussie, Aviemore or Glen Coe. Edinburgh is cool and the trip to the castle is worth the walk, also get yourself lost in the back streets and find some little shops or go on the "ghost tour" in the evening walking round the haunted streets of Victorian Edinburgh with guides that can scare the **** out of you. See even a sassanach cant resist Scotland , oh and read about "Greyfriars Bobby", his grave is in a little graveyard up somestairs hidden away ( i might be wrong on the location as it was a long time ago i went there.

I'm from Scotland. I would suggest going to Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle or Wallace's Monument. You could also take a drive up past Callander and The Trossachs. Its lovely there.

The Isle of Skye is breathtaking and has loads of little shops. Also, the Trossachs.
Edinburgh is also great, especially Mary King's Close.
