If you live in the United States, your first step would be to contact US Fish and Wildlife, who will be able to advise you as to whether or not it is legal for you to own a dolphin under your circumstances.

They will also direct you to the appropriate state agency for the state you live in. You would most likely have to register both with Federal and State authorities before even considering a dolphin for purchase, and then prove to both oversight agencies you have adequate facilities and expert help to properly care for it, if it's even legal, which it may not be in your state.

Once you do that, expect to find virtually none for sale in the United States since all the cetacean species (of which dolphins are a part) are protected here and few of the larger institutions which breed and "deal" in them, such as SeaWorld, would be willing to even consider allowing one of their animals to be housed under such circumstances.

I know that's not the answer you'd probably like, but in all honesty you are talking about an outlay in the upper millions of dollars just to get ready for one, and an outlay of hundreds of thousands per year to take care of one... and they do not survive well on their own, so start multiplying that by the number you need to keep such a social creature happy and thriving.

Plus, do you really need to give PETA a reason to form a permanent picket around your restaurant or start sabotaging all your equipment? Trust me, you put a dolphin on display at a restaurant, and they'll get around to it.

These are amazing animals, to be sure, but they are best left in the care of agencies with the resources and expert staff to properly care for them and see to their needs.

Talk to the Miami Dolphins. They let Ricky Williams go to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League ( $240,000 for the season.)

Honestly, I don't know. First of all, Live or Stuffed? And, Where are you located...Inland or on a Coast?

That will narrow the search to Fishermen or Taxidermists.

Your location determines if you can inquire locally, or do search on web, yellow page directories, etc.

I could get you one for $100 000, but you have to pay the money upfront.

Also, don't ask any questions as to where the dolphin came from.

you can't buy real ones. They are a protected species. Perhaps you could get a statue of one. A dophin wouldn't be happy living in a tank at a restaurant anyway!

You cruel person! Dolphins are meant to be free in the wild. I hope you die by being raped by one.
