It is definitely not safe even if you put the rabbit in a cage. We've had the neighborhood dogs break into our rabbits and kill them several times, even biting their toes off and breaking into the cages. Some of our wooden hutches the dogs basically knawed through half of a 2x4 trying to get to them. And if the dog doesn't physically grab the rabbit in that way, he can also kill it by scaring it and the rabbit running around the pen and breaking it's neck, which is common to happening when rabbits get excited. Some dogs will do perfectly fine around rabbits, but for the most part it's like putting a dog and cat together and hoping they get along. You know some dogs and cats will get along, but most of them won't.

for some strange reason dogs like to kill rabbits.

lock your rabbit up in a pen at night (even if it's outside) as neighbours dogs would just love to kill your little fluffy bunny.

as long as the rabbit is kept in some sort of a pen. think how you would be able to sleep if you were the rabbit.

I would seriously not recommend that. In fact do not leave them together unsupervised at all.
