The most correct name for the celts, which they call themselves, is the 'cimri'. That word is related to the term 'cimmerian', who were early celts, and the related name 'gomer' from the bible.

The cimmerians were an aryan tribe that was probably related to the scythians, though the scythians actually tried to literally exterminate the cimmerians, for uncertain reason. The original homeland of both the cimmerians and the scythians was the grassy steppe north of the black sea. It is from there that the cimmerians spread west throughout most of europe. The celts were subsequently driven out / killed / assimilated from most of western europe by the germanics and the romans, such that now the only celtic strongholds are Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and a small portion of Breton. Cornwall was also a celtic stronghold until it was gradually assimilated in recent times.

Celts seem to have come west from central Asia and inhabited much of western Europe (Gauls), and Turkey (the Galatians). It is difficult to pinpoint where ancient peoples came from exactly especially if they were not literate, and if you go back far enough their ancestry merges with that of other Indo-European groups. Celtic and Germanic are two distinct branches of the Indo-European language family, just as Romance, Slavic, Greek, Albanian and Indo-Iranian are. So no the Anglo-Saxons are not closely related to the Celts, but both are members of the Centum (roughly western) division of Indo-European language family rather than the Satem (roughly eastern) division.

The earliest archaeological evidence associated with the Celts places them in what is now France and western Germany in the late Bronze Age, around 1200 bc.

The celts also called the Galls, they are from where Turkey is today.

They are the people that the apostle Paul was writing to in the book of Galations in the Bible.
