No it is not a problem. You prob have an onboard video card that is using that memory. Most likely the video card is 32MB, but there is a slight chance that it could be 64MB card, but its only using half of its resources. A good way to tell is go to the manufacturers website and look up your model number. Usually they divide up the components so just look under the video category and it should tell you the size. If its 32MB then that is most likely your issue.

no, this is not a problem. When your system has a "shared memory" architecture, where the CPU and video chipset both use RAM from a single source of RAM - modules installed on the motherboard - part of the RAM in your PC is allocated by the BIOS to the video chipset. This can be changed by you going into the BIOS at startup, going to the video section, then changing the size of the "memory window" used by the video card - you can make it larger (up to 64MB) or smaller (16 MB or 8MB.)

512 = 480 + 32
32 MB of RAM is being used by your On-Board Graphics Card.
You can change the amount of memory used by Graphics card from CMOS setup. While starting computer, press "Del" or "F2" to go in CMOS setup.
More the RAM for Graphics, better will be your Gaming experience.

Windows resources or other hardware in your PC is using the rest of the RAM. It only shows you the RAM available after other devices have taken what they need.

This is NORMAL if u r not using seperate VGA card.
UR mother bord is currently using 32 mb of RAM for the inbuilt VGA chip.
If u hav external VGA card then change the settings in CMOS.

dont worry there is no problem. the RAM is customised in such a way that it always shows a little less than the capacity the reason is that the remaining are used up by the internal functions and processes which are not displayed.

My Friend
The reason that you r RAM does not perform properly is because you main board does not support 512, or is not compatible with the RAM manufacturer.
Its to do with your main board.
