Conventions:
^ = means your raising the base to a certain exponent
sqrt = means square root

you have to use the quadratic formula to be able to solve for the roots of quadratic equations (equation with 2 as the highest degree).

Given a quadratic equation: ax^2 + bx +c = 0 , a,b and c are real

then the Quadratic Formula is:

(-b + sqrt(b^2 - (4*a*c))) / (2*a) [1]

(-b - sqrt(b^2 - (4*a*c))) / (2*a) [2]

Use the 2 equations to solve for the roots.

Going back to your problem, the factored form is:

(x-16)(x+20)

Hope you learn something!

Why factorise when you can simplify?
x^2 + 4x -320 = 0
(x-16)(x+20) = 0

If you must, then it is x(x+4) - 320, or 4[((x^2)/4) + x - 80]
