Depends on how much you want or need the job?
Remember you can always trade up!!
I've started dobs with what I have considered a low salary, in a few years I has the highest in the department.

The company brand is hardly as important as the potential for promotion and growth. A big name company will likely be well-established, thus having 1) more job security, but 2) less opportunity for promotion. I would definitely look for better pay from a well-established company (they can afford it).

On the other hand, if there is an opportunity for promotion in a growing company (like a start-up that may be tight for cash) then it may be worth it to take an entry level job for little money, in expectations of a bigger reward later.

In all cases, you must make sure that you can cover ALL of your expenses (car loans, student loans, rent, food) and tack on an extra 15% b/c everyone always underestimates expenses. No matter what the company is or how promising it is, if you are spending more working there than you are making, you gotta say no.

What are the opportunities for promotion? If they're good, then it may be worth taking less pay now.

Other things to think about:
Do the company usually promote their staff, or recruit managers, etc from outside?

Will they train you, and if so, will the training you get there help you in future?

If it's a big brand, is it worth working there for a while to get their name on your cv?

How long are you planning staying there for?

Law isn't exactly health or education... I guess the way they're reacting may be based on you picking degrees which are strongly associated with health and education when you already know that's not what you want to do.

If there is room for promotion and you have confidence you will stand out in your job performance and you like the work you should take it. I have always been promoted and salary enhanced to go with it even though at first it did not seem as much as i wanted.
