the minute they are born, my daughter knows exactly how to get daddy to do what she wants

I don't think it is necessarily a woman thing. I have tried and tried to learn how to get what I want, but I just can't. Some people are too nice. I can be a doormat at times, but a lot of men I know can manipulate women easily. It has nothing to do with gender. This is the kind of stereotype that keeps our society so negative about women. Why would any woman want to perpetuate a negative stereotype?

Good Question. I think girls become manipulative as soon as they figure out they can get away with almost anything because of their sex.I'm not sure about the exact age,but I have noticed ( I am a mom of 3 boys) that in almost any situation, society ( teachers, parents) will always comfort the girl before they will the boy. And, if the girl adds a little batting of the eyes, and maybe a few tears, they can get what they want. I think that sends the message that they are entitled to better treatment because they are the "weaker" sex, yet we expect our girls to be treated equally in our society. How does that work?

I agree with now_n_then... Why? This is the civilization issue. They can not use their physical power and are rather recognized as emotional than rational, and manipulation is supposed to be everything that they have to achieve some goals. But, I think this is wrong and that the ability to manipulate with other people is not a virtue and that always results in self-manipulation and can even contribute in creating very pathological relations with people. You know about manipulative mothers who are "eternal victims", provoking permanent guilty-feelings in her children or husband. Who needs that? Furthermore, the question is WHICH goals they can achieve that way... If I'll have a daughter, I will raise her to be better than that. Hope so...

I don't think there is any given age. But most become manipulative after they get the marriage license in hand.
I have seen this trait from age 3 up. Girl seam to find out early, how to open doors with just a smile.

If one has any kind of smarts, manipulation is easy to do, especially if your victim is gullible.
I believe manipulation sucks, whether is a woman or a man doing it. I compare it to cheating.
Now friendly persuasion is a totally different thing. The person being persuaded knows exactly what is going on.
I simply don't like it nor have I ever taught my daughter to use it to get things.
If I want something, I come out and discuss it or say it. Quite simple really. And it works too!

Same age as men.

Women are just better at it because they can't force an issue physically as much as men.

Not all manipulation is bad.

Life is pretty much manipulating the world around you and, to some extent, allowing the world to manipulate you.

Don't we all need a "nudge" every now and again to recalibrate our priorities? Don't we all need a little sugar to help the medicine go down?

Poisoned flower , You are a fox! I have been following a few of your questions and I started to wonder about your line of questioning.

Just asking that question is in itself manipulative. The question I would ask back is "are they manipulative"? If they are it starts as soon as they are born. With cries for comfort.
They are the same as men though basically. Women give sex for love. Men give love for sex. Not so much manipulation but a mutual need to be wanted.

Take care.

women become manipulative the moment they see that it works. probably around 2 or 3 years old. for many it is the only effective way they know how to get what they want, and since it is the only method they practice, they get good at it. the only problem is that when they get caught the relationship goes through turmoil.

I don't feel like being manipulative is solely a female trait, and there are plenty of people who are not manipulative out there.

I however am not one of them ;-) but still. I only manipulate the willing.
