It's all dependent on who your consumer is -- if your customer is more apt to look for your product and/or service online, then that's the best route to go.

Let's say you have a restaurant that just has one location -- advertising in the yellow pages, radio & TV is going to reach more of your customers than going full steam on an online marketing plan.

My personal experience with online marketing is that for our industry, it's the best resource. And it offers so much more than PPC (pay per click). Some examples:

Blogs * Article Writing * Networking * Offering free information via Q&A sites * Affiliate Programs...

and I'm sure the list could go on & on.

Hope that helps!

I guess it depends on what product you are selling. I've worked for a major telecommunications company and a major online brokerage company and print advertising has not had any visible impact on either of those businesses. Online for acquisition and retention marketing and TV for brand awareness. Print is less action oriented and more difficult to track than online advertising.

Online marketing, especially keyword and search engine marketing, are among the fastest growing sectors in advertising. They're cost efficient, and extremely easy to track the return on investment.
