Your tongue can be white for a number of reasons. Some are serious and others very benign. It could look white because of one serious condition leukoplakia which is associated with cancer. In your case it is more likely to be from build up of sulfur compounds on the back of your tongue - this is related to the bacteria in your mouth. Oral thrush could also give you white tongue. Why don't you try google?

RE:
What causes a person's tongue to turn white when they are sick?
I'm interested to find out why a person's tongue turns white when they are sick and if this is a reliable way of telling whether some one is unwell.

You're tongue being white doesn't necessarily mean you're sick. It could just be a build up of dead cells. However, although I'm not completely positive on this, if you ARE sick, it is most likely due to white blood cells collecting in your tongue to fight the sickness. White bloods cells are really what make up anything white-zits, puss, etc., they're just there to fight some irritation.
