hey! norton is pretty good. what did the online scan show? i doubt it's a virus. i'd blame spysweeper. and nav only removes viruses. you need a firewall to stop them and the attacks. consider norton internet security 2006.
edit: don't install why they suggested. get NIS06, get your windows updated and install something for the spyware. check out download.com and see what antispyware softwares are popular. or search for a top10. if you are infected with a virus, there's no use of backing up your data right now... you can only do it on the clean partitions.

It may not be virus just because NAV 2006 shows that it is. NAV 2006 scans files that resembles or have certain characteristics of a virus file. Sometimes, new files that appears to be virus or spyware that you've installed from a printer software (HP, Kodak), spyware scanner, or some hardware driver, because of the "automatic update" execution command, but they are harmless. You need not uninstalling NAV 2006, just do the definitions update.

Do you have a firewall? I have zonealarm. Do you have the most current nav 2006 update? I have never had nav 2006 and not sure how it works. See my firewall scans all the emails that come through, in the firewall settings you can have nav combined with it. Have you searched to see if that virus is actually a virus? I would start with those. Have you tried adaware se? I use that one all the time. I hope that other people can help you. I also hope you find out what you need. Thanks. Rock.

I certainly can appreciate your frustration, been there myself.Lets see what we can come up with to resolve the problem.First of all don't get too angry over your anti virus or spysweeper, because no matter how good they are,or how often updated, it is not uncommon at all to come across something one program may pick up,that another misses.(I like spybot myself its free and its good,I also use avg antivirus(grisoft.com) again they have a free version that works really good, and of course ad aware se,(lavasoft.com) is a good free adware program)First lets get rid of your virus, type www. housecall.trendmicro.com into your address bar and go to their site.Run the online antivirus, malware grayware ect (just click where it says scan my pc and then click the quick link button) It will run and it will locate and remove any spyware or virus on your computer,if for any reason it can not delete it ,it will tell you how to do it manually.Once you have done this and the virus is gone, go to add/remove programs in your control panel and remove the nav program,if it still won't let you, then go to your programs folder C: program files and open the folder for NAV and click the uninstall file.If it won't uninstall, then manually click on all the files and delete them, then empty your recycle bin, then go to start button (search) for NAV .If anything comes up delete it.Now reboot your computer, check for NAV and it will be gone. Finally you can now go to the sites(if you choose) that I listed above for you to download a good spyware program, adware program and antivirus program(free versions work just fine)Good Luck your going to be fine.

Definitely research the virus. Some are no real problem, others need you to reformat to get rid of them.
Allot of those programs you mentioned find all types of things, some not threatening at all but the program needs things to find so it can advertise "XXX finds 1 million and 1 things".
Don't do any credit card or personal information transactions on your PC while its infected, and keep it offline when you can.
Research the virus, many sites will give methods to install the problem if it can be done.
If you need to try a well known free anti-virus program, try F-Prot
(http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/) & scroll towards the bottom.
If you cannot kill the virus, as mentioned earlier burn all important documents, pictures, music and videos, and do a complete format & reinstall of windows.
Good luck. & Make sure you 1) get a well known firewall and 2) scan with multiple programs all downloaded software before running or installing it.

i personally dont recommend using NAV right now, coz the developers found out they made an error on the firewall and virus patterns making your pc hackable and open to any virus attacks.

Without firewall, you will always get new and new viruses. Antivirus software cannot discover all newly created viruses immediately. Protect your PC with some firewall, e.g. Kerio - it works fine for me and i even had been forgotten what is virus on my PC.
