ALWAYS conforming is very negative.
Societies have changed and progressed due to non conformists.

conformity comes from a persons need to feel like they are a part of a group...isolated people become depressed and sometimes develop mental illness......it is also somewhere on the hierarchy of needs...the need to socialize and belong....i used to have a paper on this but i dont know where it is... =(

those who do not conform are considered a threat.
it makes it easier for them to govern and control (not in the dictator style way)
a peaceful society conformist scoiety breeds more peace

Because it helps to creates greater social structure and allows for "big brother" to keep tabs on you more effectively. Good luck on your assignment!
