I am 39 weeks and 80% effaced - 2cm dilated. I got my membranes stripped or swept today like seven hours ago. It cramped after but over time I started feeling these pains. They arnt really intense yet or anything... but it like starts in my back and moves all over my stomach ( tighting ) and like my whole stomach gets hard. It lasts about a minute or so, definitely getting stronger over time. Is this a contraction... how long do you think it will take before they will hurt pretty bad? Please help me out.

Yes, that sounds like a contraction. How long until it gets "pretty bad" depends on your pain tolerance and on how fast your labor progresses. You shouldn't worry about that right now, anyway. Get out a watch, start timing the contractions, and call your doctor when you're supposed to (generally when the contractions have reached a certain space apart; your doctor should have told you when to make the call). Good luck!

Once the contractions are around seven to 10 minutes apart, you might like to start timing them. You do this by noting how many minutes elapse between the start of one contraction and the start of the next.
If you are unsure whether to stay home or head to the hospital, ring and speak to one of the midwives. They will ask you a number of questions and help you decide what to do.
Once your contractions are five minutes apart, or if you no longer feel comfortable being at home, go to the hospital.
If your waters break or if you start bleeding from the vagina, go immediately to hospital.

labor pains no doubt. if you are still at home, time to go the hospital IF the contractions are 15 minutes (or less) apart.

pain from contractions does not depend on the intensity alone. it also depends on your 'treshold'. there are moms who deliver while waiting for 'strong pains'!

so, don't worry too much about the intensity. the frequency matters most.

Yes they are contractions. You will need to start going to the doctor when they get 20min apart. Good Luck!
