The only reason given for marriage in the New Testament is to provide an acceptable release for sexual desire (St Paul :"It is better to marry than burn").
So why not same-sex?

1 Corinthians 6
Lawsuits Among Believers
1If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? 2Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church![a] 5I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers!
7The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.

9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Sexual Immorality
12"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"—but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."[b] 17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 7
Marriage
1Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry.[a] 2But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 3The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6I say this as a concession, not as a command. 7I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

homosexuality is described as a sin.

just like sexual relations between a man and a woman outside of a marriage.

Marriage is a biblical act between a man and a woman.

It would be hypocrisy for the church to establish a same sex marriage when 1 Corinthians 6:9 clearly states that homosexuality is a sin.

Don't get me wrong, we've all sinned...but forcing a church to engage in a practice that is established by its doctrine as wrong is WRONG.

personally...

I vote Civil Unions.

Jesus Christ came and payed the price for the old testament law. Whoever said that is correct.

BUT

9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

There you have it.

And again, I restate, forcing a church, FOUNDED AND ESTABLISHED ON THE BIBLE, to go aganist its doctine so that two guys or two women can "save money on taxes" is illegitmate and desicrates what ever honor or purity marriage still has left. Hasn't divorce torn it apart enough already!?

*sigh*

Pray for our nation and each other.
We're falling to pieces.

Not at all. Jesus never said a word about homosexuality.

Parts of Leviticus condemn it, but then it also condemns eating certain birds and shellfish, the cross-breeding of livestock, picking up sticks on a Saturday, planting a mixture of seeds in a field, and wearing clothing that is a blend of two textiles.

Gay marriage may somehow be unbiblical, but it ain't unchristian.

Funny how those fundamentalists who are all over some parts of the Bible ignore more inconvenient, less hateful parts.

Couldn't be hypocrisy, could it?

Ok let me answer why I do not agree with being gay.. people can choose to do whatever they wish. But I can tell you why it is wrong and I don't even have to use the bible in any regard… NATURE itself determines it is wrong. Fact.. anything in nature that is meant to exist can pro create itself Naturally.. there are some species that each have both sexes built into them so if they cannot find a partner they can pro create on their own.. .. now.. lets take gays.. the ONLY way to have another GAY is to have a heterosexual couple create one. I am talking about NATURAL now. not science. If you take all the lesbians and put them on one island and all the gays and put them on another island.. and let them live their lives as they want to. They will eventually be wiped out. THAT is why it is wrong. Nature has not provided for that. Nuff said.. without medical intervention they CANNOT reproduce their own kind.

Perhaps you never read of Sodom and Gomorah...Homosexuality is a sin...marriage as described in the Bible was between a man and a woman...Now I believe that all people are not Christian and should not be forced to live under Christian law....therefore I have no problem with the law allowing for a legal union between two adults but lets not confuse this with a Christian marriage. Sex outside of Marriage is a sin as far as the Christian doctrine is concerned and we have freedom of religion...So lets allow us to have our faith and the world to have its beliefs but lets not say Paul ever promoted homosexuality or bestiality or incest or any other form of sex outside of marriage which was between men and women.

Becuase many christians are narrow minded and terrified of those who are different and they like to find excuses for their fears in the bible.

Actually, one of the nastiest bible stories is about homosexuality - there is man who goes to visit a friend, and while he is there crowds arrive outside the house and demand that the man come outside so that they may know him (in the biblical sense). The friend sends his virgin daughter out to be raped by the men rather than have his friend have homosexual sex. It's a disgusting story for two reasons; firstly, there's nothing wrong with being gay, secondly; it's OK to rape a young girl rather than have homosexual sex? Ugh! That kind of morality makes me shudder - and it's the morality of fundamentalist christians.

However, it's all old testament crap and as far as I know Jesus and the new testament are supposed to be the new rules to live by. However, fundamentalist christians still like to find excuses for their horrible opinions in the old testament.

It's not just Christians. It's some other religions that are against too. I believe it has nothing to do with being unchristian. Don't add or take away from the bible. The bible plainly speaks against it.

that sounds to me like a passage aganist adultry, not anything to do with the sexual nature of the marriage... it's in there somewhere, catholics believe sex is for conception of new life, therefore same sex, or contraception is seen as unnatural.. it's probably the same with same-sex marriages, it's seen as defeative of the institute of marriage and what it's designed for.

because same-sex marriages threaten a way of life that does not accept change or new thinking

What is christianism? It is a way of life. Society requires one to follow certain norms. One need not be orthodox. But it doesn't require that one has to be a freak. One needs to be a little conservative.

Homosexuality is considered natural because of the genetic make up of certain people. But for that you can't expect the society to welcome it.
