One can pray if they wish.

Just like in a relationship, you would want the lines of communications to always remain open.

As a father He want us to talk with Him, share our problems, comment the day, ask for advices, ask for healing, ask for help. He cant wait to help and bless us, we only have to ask...that's what prayer is

God gets lonely and doesnt want to go down his list of phone numbers to call us. PLUS! He's like, "Why should I call them?
They know my number by heart."

This a Catholic answer so please don't mistake it for any other Christian denomination. This is not an opinion either.

Good question although your question should've been "Who asks us to pray and why" for God doesn't ask people to pray, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary.

God, Who made everything that is good, gave humans "life" only to be disobeyed in return. This led to the banishment of humans from the Garden of Eternity. Then came generations of people who still chose the path of sin and lies after everything that God has given and continues to give to them. You might know the story of Noah and the great flood. Then came Moses to whom he gave the Law. Still people chose to live in their own devices without acknowledging what God did to them (delivered them from oppresion). No flood was sent this time, however, those generation did not live long (except Moses and Joshua) enough to see the inside of the "Ark of the Covenant" where God dwells (dwelled, well I'm not too sure about that dwell part, don't know if God still makes His presence know through the Ark of the Covenant because it is stashed away in a safe place where nobody can see it, so maybe or maybe not because I don't think God will stay there knowing that the keepers of the ark won't even let others see it. And God's plan is to make His presence know to man.) Judges were sent, prophets, kings and even more prophets and still man (for some reason) chose to live a life of sin. That is when He sent His only begotten Son through the Blessed Mother.

Well, people are people, and they like to test God's patience. It wasn't enough that they sinned that they had Jesus (take note: who is God's Son and God's physical self here on this earth) mistried and even got Him crucified! Whoa! I mean God did everything He can to make His presence be felt by the ones He hold dear (us human beings to those of you who don't know) and there they went and got rid of the last strand of God's love. In layman's terms this really got Him upset, much like a terrorist saying to the president of the United States that "give me ten bucks and I will stop bombing your buildings or killing your soldiers" and then after giving the terrorist ten bucks a building gets bombed. Now I believe that anybody will be pissed with that kind of diplomacy.

God really had enough with us humans (but not to the point that He just wanted to push the button and goodbye earth) What I mean is He had enough of us betraying His love that He now got His eyes on every single one of us. You sin and your name is taken away from the Book of Life (I didn't go layman's terms on that one). God cannot change the heart of man because He gave us free-will, only thing is that we should be responsible for our actions.

""And let us not say that it is God who is punishing us in this way; on the contrary it is people themselves who are preparing their own punishment. In his kindness God warns us and calls us to the right path, while respecting the freedom he has given us; hence people are responsible”.(5)"" -taken from The Message of the Fatima.

The worst part is, even if you are the most righteous person alive, the sin of others will drag you too. I can't put it any other way but that is just how it is.

Now going back to your question. God doesn't want us to pray, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary who does. She "intercedes" between God and us humans and it wasn't just her but also her Son Jesus Christ. (they had Him crucified and yet here He is still wanting to save us from our sins, we oughta be ashamed, really, including me).

An angel showed Mary the world and all it's people. Mary asked why are there people who appear to be buried in black tar with only their heads showing. The angel said those are the people who have sinned and turned away from God's love. Mary was saddened for there are far too many people in that "black tar pit" suffering and being tormented by it. (take note: I'm only using the "black tar" because I forgot the term that was actually used but it is closed to that). Mary then asked whether if she can get PEOPLE to pray and go back to God's love will half of them be saved? The angel said yes. But saving half isn't enough for the Blessed Mother for she wanted everyone to be saved. So now she "interceded", kinda like talks to God, on our behalf.

That is why Mary, and not God, wants us to pray because they can see all and it is not a very pretty sight. Sad to say but not even the entire devout population of the world constitutes for the 50% of those needed in order to save humankind. But people who pray, even if they are just starting to after living a life of sin, helps so much for their prayers can convert sinful hearts.

I hope I answered your question, and to all, please pray especially the Holy Rosary.
