You could put as maaany zeros behind it as you want:

1 = 01 = 001 = 0001 = 000001 = 0000000001 = 00000000000000000000000000000000000001 ..etc :-)

10 ^ 0 = 1

yes, good way to explain it actually.
Anything (except 0) to the power 0 is one; I always explain that by showing that x ^a/x^a = x^(a-a)=x^0, but also x^a/x^a = 1.
