I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra and mine does the SAME THING...I would put gas in my car and the light would pop on and by the time Im ready to refuel the light would go off...they told me my gas cap wasnt secured tight enough...but when Im done at the gas station I tighten it until my hand hurts....
...try driving around with it on for another week or 2...if the light stays on...go to the place you bought your car (or a Nissan dealership if you bought your car somewhere else like I did) and have them look at it...the sensor might be off (like in my case)...
and by the way...fords are NOT better cars...so skip over that one answer a few above mine....

Since the light keeps coming on there might be a problem in the light switch if Mobil oil level checked before stating the engine is OK. In that case show your car to an car electrician. Also monitor that there is no drop in the level of mobile oil after you have filled the engine to the required level. If there is a drop in the level it could be due to various causes - leakage from joints- engine pistons need to be replaced- gasket to be replaced. But all this needs to be done in car workshop.

Your car is telling you that something is wrong enough to need to have it checked out. You've done what you can do, but now it's best to take it to someone who knows more about it than you do and has equipment that will check the car out in ways that you just can't.
Spending the money is an investment, not really an expense. Car payments to replace your ailing car will be a lot more expensive than having this checked out, and there might be something seriously unsafe about driving the car the way it is now.
Drive carefully (stay off the freeway) down to the service center and have it looked at.

Several Nissan models in and around that year develop faulty crankshaft position sensors which will cause an intermittent problem similar to yours. The best action to take in this scenario is to seek advice from a reputable mechanic( look for ASE certifications)a quality mechanic can properly diagnose the problem much more efficiently than an individual in a parts store. Making sure your scheduled maintenance being performed on a timely basis will lead to less headaches and lower repair bills as time progresses.

Mostly when the light comes on (90% of the time) it has to do with you emissions system in the car. Smog. It could be a burnt out oxygen sensor etc related to that system. Take it to your mechanic and let them read the codes of what is happening. It is a good idea to keep on top of the light because sometimes expensive things can develop if you blow it off...

I would say other than maybe replacing you gas cap, that you would need to have it put on a diagnostic's machine and have some test done on it. This should tell you why the light comes on.

Have it checked out. At Auto Zone, they hook up some device to the car and it tells you what's wrong with it. Usually, it turns out to be a minor thing.

you should bring your car to the workshop for a proper mechanic to look at...maybe you car need to change the engine oil or maybe the dashboard indicators are not functioning properly.... anyhow, it's better to check it up with the proper mechanic as if your car is faulty, you will endanger yourself and your passengers and also other road users....

It could really be any # of things. I would suggest taking it to Autozone or O'Reilly or NAPA to get them to do a free check. Quick and easy.
