Requirements for regular licenses to teach kindergarten through grade 12 vary by State. However, all States require general education teachers to have a bachelor’s degree and to have completed an approved teacher training program with a prescribed number of subject and education credits, as well as supervised practice teaching. Some States also require technology training and the attainment of a minimum grade point average. A number of States require that teachers obtain a master’s degree in education within a specified period after they begin teaching.

You can become an ESL teacher in no time, some courses are really dodgy however take a CELTA and it will take 1 to 2 months. To be a regular school teacher you need to go to teachers college, 1 to 2 years at least I would say. If you want info on becomeing an ESL teacher and finding jobs abroad feel free to contact me.

You must go to college to get your Bachlors degree which is 4 years. Then you must get certified which is something you maybe able to do while completing your first four years or may have to be done afterwards. Which should not take very long. Then even if you are hired I think most school systems want their teacher to get their Master's Degree which is another year and half.

In our country, it takes four years of education to get the degree and after that, you should pass the Teacher's Certificate Program. If ever you are already a graduate of any four-year course, you can get the 18-unit course in education plus pass the TCP.
