These are obviously people who either have money or has someone giving them money. What kills me is the fact that someone who has paid taxes and worked hard and ends up on hard times, has a harder time getting welfare than someone who has never worked. Go figure.

No one’s saying that, but at some point assistance becomes like giving money to an addict. There’s a middle ground that’s both reasonable & practical.
Is there anything wrong with saying that after unemployment runs out you can go on welfare for 18 months to two years max, but only so long as you participate in mandatory job retraining & placement? Provide some childcare, psychological counseling, assistance when people want to move to a place with more opportunities & can be placed in a job there. No one’s calling these folks bums because they’ve fallen down, only when they refuse to get up. The flaw of the govt program is that it breeds slothfulness, it puts your brain in a place where you don’t have the motivation to succeed. All we’re saying is charity is a good thing as long as it isn’t abused, real practical help is better than just a check, and all of it must be balanced with a reasonable proportion of tough love.
Why not ask: if we shipped out some of the illegals we have now, could we put folks on welfare into those jobs? In fact are those jobs ones that Americans won't do because you'll get more on welfare &/or not have to work as hard?

i know exactly what you mean, except my issues are with medicare, My husband works nights makes 11 dollars an hour and we barely get medical help... we cant afford the insurance to be taken out for our two kids and me and the people over medicare have issues with giving us medical coverage because my husband works... We barely make enough to pay our bills now, if we got med coverage through his work we couldnt afford groceries and half of our bills because they would take over 200 dollars a paycheck....sometimes people need the extra help, we shouldnt be put down for it!

... I think that they are the children of the wealthy... never had a hard day of work in their lives and all they know is what "daddy" told them... and as far as he is concerned, they are taking away from what he "earned" and they don't deserve it... even though his "daddy" got him into college, gave him all the money he needed and talked to someone at "the company" to get his son hired...
In other words... it's all a bunch of rhetoric that the rich say to make themselves feel better about all the advantages that everyone (including themselves) know they get...

NOT ALL OF THE ARE BUMS, OR LAZY, BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE ON WELFARE ABUSE IT. WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE ONES THAT ABUSE IT THE MOST. I KNOW A LADY THAT JUST KEEPS HAVING KIDS SO SHE CAN GET MORE WELFARE MONEY. I HEARD OF PEOPLE GETTING MULTIPLE CHECKS, USING THE NAMES AND SS# OF DEAD PEOPLE. THIS IS WHY OUR COUNTRY IS HEADED FOR DISASTER, AND WHY NOTHING WILL BE LEFT FOR OUR RETIREMENTS. ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE TAKING IT AWAY FROM US.

I guess that I am one of the Idiots who believe in personal responsibility and choices. I know my sister is a grad student and all her Friends were so happy that they could go on food stamps and she wanted to do it too. I told my sister that I would pay for her to not go on food stamps and she said she did not want to take money from me. I told her that if she takes food stamps she is taking money from me anyway. (I talked her out of it).
Some of us believe that barring a physical or mental disability every individual has the ability to be financially secure by making choices in their life that will shape the rest of their life. The poor choose to be poor, the homeless choose to be homeless, the rich choose to be rich.
Do drugs, you are choosing to be a junkie.
Live beyond your means, you are choosing to be poor.
Become a Teen Aged Mother, You have just made life harder on your self.
If we continue to subsidies people who make poor choices, we will only get more people who make poor choices. (Give a man a fish vs. send him off to go fishing)
Save much of your income and live within your means, you will never be on food stamps or need a hand out, you also get one more benefit that those on food stamps will never understand,,, PRIDE.
