No. All insects have an exoskeleton, a hard covering or special skin (cuticle), which provides support and protects them from water loss. Because of their high surface to volume ratio, insects have the potential to lose water rapidly. The hard cuticle is coated with waxes (long chain hydrocarbons similar to those found in beeswax) which minimizes water loss.

Do Butterflies Have Bones

2016-11-09 02:16:19 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Technically no, but butterflies like alot of other insects have what is called an endoskeleton. Where their skeletal structure is on the outside of their body. When you look at a butterfly you can see the hardened material which is their skeleton. However their 'bones' aren't like other creatures bones which are normally white, they are usually a black hardened substance.
so while butterflies do have their own bone like structure, they do not have typical bones.

In a way yes, as humans have skeletons, all insects including butterflies have exoskeletons made of chitin. Thing is they wear their bones outside.

Nope, no bugs do. They have exoskeletons rather than bones. It's why they squish so well when you step on things like ants, lol. Seriously, though, all bugs, spiders, crustaceans (crabs, lobsters, etc.) are the same, they have a 'shell' that keeps everything in place, and allows them to move, while keeping everything where it's supposed to be inside.

Nope. A butterfly is a bug- they only have exoskeletons (hard outer shells) which is why they crunch when you smoosh them.
