Isn't it more honest work than asking people if they want fries with that?

my dear young lady. whom ever told you thar being a gardener is looked down upon? those who care not or can not garden? i have never heard of gardening being looked down upon. some of the world's most leading and respectable persons are gardeners. queen elizabeth, for one is an avaid gardener. a recent pole taken by harrlan woulf and associates polled american's with a masters degree or higher in education as to their favorate pastime and hobbies. a full 67% of those with a phd listed gardening as their number one choice. 63% with masters also listed gardening as number one. not one of those super educated persons suggested bowling as a grand pastime. i think you have been misinformed, and badly so. gardening and gardeners are both noble in nature. only in motherhood could anyone find more satisfaction in an endeavor as gardening. i have two masters of science degrees, am a former military intelligence officer (rank of major), was elected to two terms of public office, served on two presidential inaugural committees, and am a certified master gardener. yet the biggest thrill of my life came when my camellia won 1st place in 1st flower show i ever entered. i am yet to find a single person working in the gardening industry who is not completely proud of what they do. unfortunatly their are a very, very who give gardening a bad name. the guy who finds himself out of a job, ownes a pick up truck and a lawn mower and suddenly, over night, becomes a gardener. (at least until he can find an easier job, that is) i am proud of my dirty fingernails and sore back. i wouldn't trade them for all the riches in the world. to see a small child smell a rose for the first time and see their young eyes light up. what a wonderful feeling. god bless the gardeners of the world. the next time you hear someone putting down the garden profession, you have my permission to kick them right in the... petunia.

Personally, I have never looked down on a gardener but I have never looked down on anyone asking "do you want fries with that" either.
Back to gardeners though, I think a beautiful, well planned and healthy garden is both a work of art and science and has the power to bring much beauty and enjoyment to peoples lives. So not only do I not look down on gardeners but I ..... look UP to them!

I think being a gardener is a super profession. The only problem might be if you start your own business, you will not have any insurance or medical coverage like you would working for someone. Otherwise it's a great thing to do.

I feel sorry for people who look down on gardners. They are some of the happyest people I know. I enjoy doing my own gardening, even though I don't have to. My neighbor is a multi-millionare and he does his own yard work. He has gobs of money and could easily hire it done, but he also enjoys the work. Anyone who looks down on gardeners just has their nose in the air and should try soil under their fingernails.

Most people don't "get it" when it comes to gardening. I'm a gardener by profession and love it. However, my friends all think i'm a little strange. To most people, plants just go in the ground and grow. It's us lucky few who took the time to learn about the fascinating stuff.

Generally, gardeners aren't looked down upon. Of course, some people object to getting their hands dirty, but in a famine they'll be the first to starve, eh?

Generally, people who look down at other occupations are often shallow and are not very intelligent. This is especially true of those with "old money", i.e., the money has been passed down though several generations.

Do yourself a favor. Treat everyone like you would like to be treated and the world will be a happier place.

Anyone in the USA who does "menial" work, is always looked down on. Though, they dont realize it, that those who do perform these tasks, are artists in themselves, and can work wonders with thier craft...

People think that they have "made it" if they are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and they tend to look at the "little people", as menial and not worthy of anything...

But, as JESUS equates, it is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven than a camel going through the eye of a needle..(paraphrased)...

Because you have "made it", doesnt give anyone the right to look "down" on anyone! If it wasnt for the hotel staff, those "high and mighty" would be sleeping on soiled linen from not being changed!

Everyone is important in the scheme of life. Its what people choose to do, that makes them happy, and an artist at thier craft.

Like my Dad always said, even if your going to be a garbage man, be the BEST DAM GARBAGE MAN YOU CAN BE!!

And, I always lived by these words as close as I could...

I wish you well..

Jesse
