No, I shop there, but buying things at Hot Topic doesn't make you punk, goth or emo. Those are all subcultures around for decades and decades, punk since the late sixties, goth since the late seventies, and emo since the late eighties/ early nineties. Hot Topic was started in 1996. Do the math. They sell 'Anarchy' shirts in the genuine capitalist tradition of give-them-what-they-want. Also- please don't read any further if you are young and innocent in the ways of subcultures- real punks made their own clothes. DIY. If you don't know what DIY is, you're not punk. Sorry. Also, Hot Topic is owned by THE GAP. That's right. The Gap. If you want to know why Hot Topic is NOT punk rock, read 'Branded' by Alissa Quart. It explains how corporations are lying to you.

I love Hot Topic..not because I'm punk or goth or anything like that, but they have some unique stuff, and I like to have my own style.

If youre punk or gothic I can understand why you like it my friend is punk shes obsessed about hot topic she always goes there but I dont really like it.

Two years ago I got tired of shopping at all the preppy stores like Abercrombie, Hollister, etc...and decided to take a look at hot topic. I was amazed at all the unique styles of shirts they had and have bought many shirts from there. Its a great store, keep on shopping there!

My friends and i love hot topic and im a mother of 4. we're really into skulls and billie joe's new clothing line adelaide. we also go there for cult classic stuff that you cant find elswhere.
