Real injury. David Beckham had it and Gary Neville had it. This is a common football injury. Ask anyone working in A&E. The metatarsal is the long bone from the ankle to the toe. There are five of them. Any nasty blow to the foot could do it or if someone steps on your foot while you are moving or twisting it.

If you are not a sports person, you could be walking reasonably well after a week although it depends on whether the bone is still well aligned or displaced
